Dr. Trevor Alleman, Psy.D.

Hi, I’m Dr. Trevor Alleman, a licensed psychologist in Santa Barbara, California. I’ve spent nearly two decades working in mental health, including 11 years in private practice.

My work focuses on helping people understand the emotional patterns and protective habits that keep them stuck, so they can make meaningful changes in their lives and relationships.

Availability: I provide in-person therapy in Santa Barbara and virtual therapy via telehealth for clients across California.

My Specialities

  • Trauma & PTSD

  • Teens

  • Men’s issues

  • Anxiety & Stress

  • Depression & Emotional Numbness

  • Addiction or Self-Sabotage

  • Relationship & Attachment Struggles

  • Spiritual/ Existential Distress

My Approach

My approach is direct, honest, and engaged. I want to understand what matters to you, what has been getting in the way, and what needs to change. My work is informed by Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), which explores how emotions, past experiences, and protective patterns shape the way we think, feel, and relate to others.

Research shows that insight alone isn't always enough. You can understand why a pattern developed and still find yourself repeating it. In therapy, we'll work toward both understanding what's happening beneath the surface and making changes that carry over into your everyday life. I'll listen carefully, ask questions, and challenge you when appropriate.

My Background

I've spent nearly two decades working in mental health, including 11 years in private-practice psychotherapy.

My clinical work is informed by extensive study and training in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), which helps people understand the emotions and protective patterns that shape their lives and relationships.

My training also includes a three-year 250 hours of training with master ISTDP therapist Jon Frederickson. These experiences have shaped my direct, engaged approach to therapy and my focus on helping people move beyond insight to meaningful change.
